Their great grandfathers, grandfathers, and fathers were "lunas," and as bosses and supervisors they checked the fields and laborers on horseback.

Women on horseback were not common in earlier times, but Caucasian women who rode horses followed the lead of Hawaiian women who wore pa'u, comfortable riding skirts that allowed ample movement for riding and walking. And they wore hats and blouses with long sleeves to protect them from the sun.

Horseback riders at the Hanamau`ulu Town Celebration parade were Diane Rapozo, Charlene Medeiros, Pam Grant, and Nina Anderson. And giving Neil and Pat Sr. company were Pat Brun Jr., Chris Soares, and "The Cowboys."
