Christmas Celebration

Thursday  |  December 16, 2010  |  6 - 10 PM

King Kaumuali`i School Cafeteria

Merry Christmas!   Happy New Year!

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,

which is Christ the Lord.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,

 good will toward men.

Luke 2:11, 14

"The stars in the sky looked down where he lay."

The groups for the song contest were randomly constituted, based on the slips with the titles of carols that attendees were handed at the registration table.  As it turned out, Dr. Tony Trpovski (Above, far left), master of ceremonies, and Janice Higashi (far right), who led the "Songs of Praise" with her keyboard, led the winning group, which sang "Away In a Manger" with actions.

For the 100-Plus members and friends who attended, the Christmas party was a festival of Christmas Carols, a festival of dancing, a festival of food by excellent cooks and bakers, and a festival of fun and fellowship.

In the spirit of giving, sharing, and good will, the gathering brought a generous collection of canned goods for the Kauai Food Bank.

Two Signs Are Blessed

Eddie Sarita, welcomes members & friends.

Blessing & unveiling of signs: Sat., 1/31/09

Some 50 members and friends experienced overcast skies, intermittent sunshine, intermittent drizzles, and heavy downpours as they gathered at the entrance of Hanama`ulu Road on Saturday, January 31, 2009, for the blessing and unveiling of the new WELCOME TO HANAMA`ULU TOWN and PETER RAYNO SR. PARK signs. Funding by Kaua`i Visitors Bureau and Kaua`i Visitors Industry made the much-needed replacements of the signs that were installed in April 2001, and which were vandalized and fixed again and again through the years.

As is the case at auspicious events, after the heavy Hawaiian downpour that followed the blessing and unveiling of the signs, the sun shone brightly to the delight and relief of everyone!  The attendees huddled under two tents, and those with umbrellas managed to stay dry at the peripheries of the tents.

Pupu was a perfect finale to the happy event.  Pauline Ibia, Dale Matsuura, Mildred Rapozo and others made the pupu buffet of sushi, rice/salmon spread rectangles, fried chicken wings and mini-drumsticks, desserts and soda possible.

On the right-hand corner of the tent in yellow blouse is Mary Daubert, County of Kaua`i Public Information Officer, as she focuses her camera on Jay Furfaro, vice-chair of the Kaua`i County Council and a member of the Kaua`i Visitors Bureau, as he addresses the gathering.   Also at the event was Mrs. Furfaro (nee:  Ema Gomez).
